In the lead up to REMIX1 exhibition, three participating artists, Derik Narsong Taleo, Amelia Lovo and Marcel Melto, were supported through a small stipend to have access to the Vanuatu Kaljoral Senta collections and archives in a pilot VKS Artists Access project. Over two weeks the artists undertook research in the National Archives, Museum and Library, supported by Dan Owen, volunteer curator at the Fondation Suzanne Bastien and Vanuatu Kaljoral Senta staff. Participating artists conducted research relating to their cultural identity and ‘kastom’ connections, and responded to what they found by creating contemporary artwork. Works made as part of this program will be shown in the REMIX1 exhibition.
